A press release touting one particular batch of seasonal beer landed in my inbox recently. Its self-mockingly hyperbolic prose asked simply to be posted as is:
"Shmaltz Brewing Company, handcrafters of HE'BREW - The Chosen Beer, celebrates its 12th year of delicious beer and delicious shtick with the special limited-edition release of the fifth incarnation of their award-winning "extreme" Chanukah seasonal, JEWBELATION: their 12th Chosen Beer in 12 years of Shmaltz. Coincidence? Destiny!! Rising to 12% alc, Jewbelation Twelve is brewed with 12 malts and 12 hops bringing a nearly miraculous warming glow to store shelves nationwide from October 2008 through March 2009."
For more over-the-top descriptors of this seasonal beer ("Conceived in San Francisco 1996, Brewed in New York 2008"), and a complete list of all twelve hop varieties used in its making, read this.
Shmaltz proprietor Jeremy Cowan visits Fremont this weekend to sample this beer and others.
