When I poked my head into the kitchen at Pike's Bar & Grill recently, chef Charlie Harris (who's cooked at the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel, Seattle) was whisking up a batch of aoli. He explained that everything the restaurant serves is house-made, down to the ketchup.
The menu features such dishes as bacon-wrapped chicken livers, meatloaf sliders, braised short ribs, and a barley-fed pork hot dog. Yes, they'll have skirt steak and halibut, too, but Pike's Bar & Grill is aiming for "high-quality, proprietary interpretations of West Coast cafe/diner food." Owner Mike Johnstone--who's got a background in software engineering and will manage the finances--was excited about creating a place with an approachable neighborhood atmosphere. And they want prices to be attractive.
I have yet to try it out, but this place certainly sounds tempting. And being on 12th and Pike, mere steps from several established dining destinations, one hopes they can't not do well.
