I Choose Pro-Chocolate

Seattle hosts a plethora of "Taste Of" events throughout the year, but none so focused as NARAL's Chocolate for Choice, happening this Tuesday.

If you love chocolate, and you lean a little to the left, this event will not disappoint. Some of the city's best chocolatiers, pastry chefs, and restaurants will showcase their Theobroma in all manner of cakes, truffles, and mousse (what is the plural of mousse, JK?). Every year I spy a few surprises and pick up on some tips for pairing and presentation. Two years ago, cocoa nibs showed up in many of the desserts, and many more featured a southern bent. Of course now, we're not as surprised to see cocoa nibs, and desserts touting southern roots are all the rage (red velvet anyone?).

Buck up for VIP tickets, and you'll get an empty box to fill with your favorite specimens. (Pictured: chocolate sculpture from Tango Restaurant from 2006 event)
