I Ate This: The Ranchhand at Frontier Room

Way better than Ryan Adams live.

What: The Ranchhand: A heaping pile of pulled pork, brisket, and chicken for two.
Where: Frontier Room, 2203 First Ave., at Blanchard, BELLTOWN, www.frontierroom.com
When: Before the Ryan Adams show at the Moore. (Yes, this meal was way better than the show.)
Cost: $27.50
Recommended? Hell yes!
Tip:  You definitely don't need an appetizer when ordering this monster. But, if you really want something to snack on while you wait, try an order of the hush puppies. They're on the sides menu, not appetizers, and a regular order is only $2.75. And, yes, they're great.

Official Tasting Notes: I carry a hefty appetite, and am leery of any dinner that "serves two." Even after the server assured me that there would be plenty to go around, I had my doubts. I was so very wrong. Not only was the meal plentiful, it was wonderful. The pulled pork was moist (though it started to dry out in the air conditioned room) and the chicken was perfect, as was the brisket. They didn't overdo the sauce, either, allowing the flavors from the rub to stand out. Throw in an order of hush puppies, and you've got a meal for three reasonable adults here.

Happy Hour: As we sat there, planning our return, we took note of the happy hour. Haven't hit it yet, but considering the offerings, it won't be long: $1 rolls (w/pork or beef), $3 drafts, wells, and selected wines; 3 to 6 p.m., Tuesday to Friday; 11 p.m. to 2 a.m., Tuesday to Thursday.
