Food press worth reading.

Today launches the first week of a new Voracious feature, highlights from my Wednesday morning food-section blitz.

How Much for a Bag of Cherries? (UK Guardian). Britain discovers why America calls its favorite chichi supermarket "Whole Paycheck."

Burnt Chefs (SF Weekly) This feature came out last week, but I just had a chance to read it. Eliza Strickland writes a damning report on the lengths to which the California Culinary Academy goes to trick entice aspiring chefs into taking out $50K or more in student loans. (I rambled on about this very topic a couple of weeks ago.)

Pike Place Market Pioneers (Seattle Times). Nancy Leson writes a lovely profile of a few people who have spent their lives making our market great.

Valley Dairy Stripped of Organic Label (SF Chronicle). Finally, someone gets serious about enforcing the USDA organic standards, retracting certification from one of the "family farms" (with 10,000 cows) that supplies Horizon Dairy with its organic milk.

Craptails (Chow). Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
