2007 Beard Award Finalists Announced

Quite a few Seattle restaurateurs and writers make the list (duh).

The James Beard Foundation just announced the finalists for its prestigious 2007 restaurant and journalism awards. And of course, a number of Seattle cooks and writers made the list:

Cookbooks, Food of the Americas category: Kathy Casey, Kathy Casey’s Northwest Table (Chronicle Books)

Outstanding Pastry Chef Award category: Leslie Mackie, Macrina Bakery & Cafe

Outstanding Service Award category: The Canlis Family, Canlis

Best Chef, Northwest category (OR, WA, ID, AK, WY, MT) -- Seattle had four chefs out of five:

- Maria Hines, Tilth

- Holly Smith, Cafe Juanita

- Joseba Jimenez de Jimenez, Harvest Vine

- John Sundstrom, Lark

And a special congratulations from me to my competitor Rebekah Denn, over at the P-I, who was nominated in the Best Restaurant Criticism (magazine or newspaper) category!

Congratulations to all the finalists (if I've missed any other local writers, let me know). The winners will be announced in early May. Food geek alert: You can download a PDF version of the full list of finalists here.
