12th Avenue Goes Gourmet

Soon to be bursting with new restaurants.

Capitol Hill's 12th Avenue is soon to be bursting with new restaurants. La Spiga, Café Stellina, an Asian restaurant, and an as-yet-unnamed bar from the owners of Le Pichet are all set to open on 12th between Pine and Union streets, adjacent to the relatively new urban furniture store, Retrofit.

A traditional Italian eatery, La Spiga, plans to open a 6,000-square-foot place at the end of September, moving from their Broadway and Union location, which is about a third the size. Café Stellina (previously a coffee shop at 19th Avenue and Union in the Central District) will move in next door and offer breakfast, lunch, and private dinners. These two will be neighbors to the aforementioned Asian restaurant, though that place is a bit of a mystery so far. Alas, the Le Pichet-owned bar is not scheduled to open until the end of the year—so you'll have to wait a bit longer for your Capitol Hill foie gras fix. With Lark's Licorous just open down the street, it looks like 12th Avenue is set to become restaurant row.
