  • Equalityoga at Cal Anderson Park
Saturday morning saw several hundred people fill Cal Anderson Park for Equalityoga, an event celebrating the 40th anniversary of Stonewall and benefitting Lambda Legal and Equal Rights Washington. The yogic skill level varied from novice to expert, and the yoga itself was preceded by a speech from state Sen. Ed Murray (on, among other things, the evolution of the gay rights movement since Stonewall, and the importance of having the event at a park named after Cal Anderson, Washington's first openly gay legislator) and capped with a speech by Cathie Bochy, a lesbian who spoke of the difficulties of raising her 5-year-old daughter in a society that discriminates against the LBGTQ community. As she put it, "Have you ever tried explaining domestic partnerships to a five-year-old?"
