Connery, skimpy future-combat outfits, adventurous DJ sets...what more could you ask for? Tonight at 8 p.m., the Northwest Film Forum is hosting a screening of Zardoz, the 1974 John Boorman sci-fi flick that stars a pony-tailed, and very fleshy Sean Connery. The screening is one of the Forum's audio/visual "Movie Night" events that runs every second Friday, and features live DJ sets over the movie as it runs. Tonight's DJs are local guys DJAO (Dropping Gems) and Jon Francois (DUG). The film will be followed by live set of original material by on-the-rise local producer, Kid Simpl (Hush Hush). AO has become a fast-rising star on the town's electronic scene himself, and has conveniently just released a new single to tie in:
"Time To Stop Waiting" will be formally released on January 15th on a compillation called Show Me the Future on Los Angeles label Friends of Friends. The single features AO's unique blend of woozy ambiance and sly melody over a calm dance rhythm.
Trippy old-school Zardoz film trailer and "Movie Night" press release after the jump...
Movie Nite began at Bauhaus Coffee shop. Marcy Stone Francois conceptualized a night where Dee Jays would play records over movies. She booked Jon Francois Stone and Jordan JamHammer to give it run. Over 30 films later, Movie Nite has continued refine and innovate their psychedelic audiovisual experience. It has had several collaborators and conspirators including Specs One, Tricera, Al NightLong, Disc Jock BHIll, and our new movie night partner in crime Dj NicFIt!
Join them and special guests, every second Friday when they turn the sounds down on your favorite films and create a new live soundtrack with turntables.
