Anthony Disparte's Debut Conjures Jimmy Eat World with the Punk Rock Stripped Away

Though there are shades of the Postal Service and Greg Laswell in Disparte's gentle ballads, a closer comparison might be Jimmy Eat World, only with the punk rock stripped away. Each of the release's half-dozen songs focus on love (two even have the L-word in their title), which, in addition to its influences, make it easy to label as emo folk. The arrangements are sparse, with bass and drums on a few tracks, a few bits of programming here and there and female vocals on "the wrong one," but the centerpiece is Disparte's warm voice, which gives the songs just enough weight. Disparte will have a record release party at the Crocodile on Jan. 3rd and you can see a video after the jump.
