Seattle's musical and culinary worlds are joining forces tomorrow night for a single great cause--Superstorm Sandy relief. Rachel Flotard and her team at Local 638 Records are teaming up with Tom Douglas (or, as he is called in the official invite, "Tommy D") to host A New York State Of Mind - Seattle Cooks New York tomorrow, November 20, at the Palace Ballroom. The premise? Chefs from 16 local restaurants--including Dahlia Lounge, Salumi, Canlis, Spur, Dante's Inferno Dogs, Roxy's Diner, and a slew of other SW Voracious favorites--will present a dish inspired by their favorite New York restaurants. The goal, in Flotard's words, is to "cook to help East Coast families worked over by stupid Sandy."
Guests will be able to walk around and taste each dish while sipping on a complementary Manhattan, provided by cocktail maestros Tini Bigs. There will also be a live auction and tunage courtesy of KEXP's DJ El Toro. The goal is to raise $25,000: 100% of the events proceeds are going to the American Red Cross. I'm predicting they meet the bar, since the event is already sold out. (I know it's kind of terrible to talk up this really cool event and then say you can't go unless you already bought tickets, but Flotard + Douglas + the participating restaurants' creative generosity needed to be spotlit).
