On August 17, 1991, on the Culver City, California set of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video, Kurt Cobain memorably relieved Krist Novoselic of his Zen-On bass--which, according to The Independent had been purchased at a pawnshop with the intent of destroying it--and smashed it to pieces in the middle of the crowd of extras. One of those extras thought to salvage the body of the bass, and it's now set to make a dime or two at auction. On November 29, Christie's of London will sell off the guitar piece at an entertainment memorabilia auction that will also include Bob Dylan's high school yearbook and Indiana Jones' whip and Holy Grail. The bass is expected to pull in between $24,000 and $40,000. If you've got that kind of cash, check Christie's website for more information.
