Tokyoidaho's Self-Titled Debut Is Meandering, Synth-Heavy Electro-Rock

Tokyoidaho comprises three former members of Seattle shoegaze act Voyager One, and it shows in the group's layered, laconic electro-rock sound. (Think Bear in Heaven at its most subdued or Low with lots of synthesizer.) The most relaxed tracks are the best ones, including meandering mid-album number "The Ballard of the Teenage Shut-In" and album closer "Deep Cushions," which is an ambitious space-rock track even if it doesn't quite earn its 10-minute run time. As a whole, Tokyoidaho is a bit raw, but it's a cohesive debut that leaves a lot to build on.

Listen to album opener (and recent KEXP song of the day) "Other Places, Other Days" after the jump.
