The Crow Mother

Out now, self-released, wickerbird.bandcamp.com

Blake Cowan, the one-man band behind NYC-by-way-of-Puyallup's Wickerbird, isn't reinventing the wheel with his self-released debut The Crow Mother, but the 11 tracks contained within are oddly soothing indie rock lullabies. With a crackling, lo-fi production, they gently reassure with familiar sounds (delicately finger-picked guitar, reverb sticky harmonies) and new-age imagery (i.e. "Druids," "Indian Blankets"), while undercurrents of ambient fuzz keep them just off-kilter enough to warrant their own footprint in the canon.
