Today Reverb Recommends Cathedrals in Tacoma With David Bazan

Cathedrals is an awesome concert series curated by the Fremont Abbey Arts Center that began with a few shows at St. Mark's in Capitol Hill featuring a range of artists from Mark Pickerel to My Brightest Diamond. The concerts are tagged as non-religious events, but the acoustic resonance of a place like St. Mark's tends to give tunes performed there an extra note of reverence (or maybe it's the preponderance of bibles and holy water).

In any case, Cathedrals fever has once again hit Tacoma (Pearly Gate Music, The Maldives, and Pickwick played a Cathedrals gig there in March), and if you're in south Puget sound tonight, you should check out the latest staging at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. The lineup features David Bazan, Kevin Sur (of Indian Valley Line), and Pretty Broken Things, each backed by the Passenger String Quartet, who occasionally accompany Kris Orlowski.

What's interesting about tonight's bill is that headliner Bazan is best known for his work with Pedro the Lion, an openly Christian indie-rock band. But don't expect things to get too "churchy," the experience really is about "the best indie music in a venue that resonates with rich and deep overtones."

Immanuel Presbyterian is located at: 901 North J St., tickets are $16, the show starts at 8 p.m., and you can get the rest of the deets right here.
