The Walkabouts have been a Seattle fixture since 1984, and it shows on this 7" single. On the A-side, singer Chris Eckman sounds appropriately wizened for a frontman of nearly 30 years, penning an ode to escapism over torrents of pulsating guitar and organ. The song originally appeared on last year's Travels In The Dustland, a song cycle about the desert, and the track sounds appropriately spacious. The B-side, "Thin of the Air," is sparse and bluesy, with vocals from Carla Torgerson.

Watch a January performance of "Soul Thief" from KEXP's studios after the jump.
