The Bumbershoot 2012 lineup's already been announced, but that doesn't mean there isn't time for some late additions. Microsoft, Starbucks, and One Reel have a contest going called Opportunity Rocks for musicians under the age of 24--the winning band will get to play the Starbucks Stage at Bumbershoot as well as the Microsoft Stage at the Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival on the 4th of July. (And they'll get paid for both gigs!)
The contest is in the semi-finals round, and two of my personal favorite local young bands are in the running--the shimmering vocalist and songwriter Whitney Ballen and her band the Intimates and the precocious indie-rock quintet Land of Pines. From now until this Monday, June 25, you can help one of the semi-finalists--which also include Joey Lyon, The Cat From Hue, The Cellar Door, Jacob McCaslin & Roll the Credits, and Special Explosion--reach the top 3 by visiting Opportunity Rocks' website and clicking to vote for your chosen act.
You can vote once per day (which means between today and yesterday I put in a vote for both Ballen and Land of Pines). On June 25, the field will be narrowed down to a top 3, and the following day a winner will be announced. Good luck to all of the contestants!
