Speaking of electronic music, (segue!) Jason Baxter, who is one-half of the local electronic duo USF and also our good friend who handles publicity at Hardly Art, has created the official soundtrack to Trip Fantastic, the comic he created last year with Mac Hamilton and Derek Charm. In Baxter's words:
With the [Trip Fantastic] EP, I had the benefit of hindsight, the first two issues of the comic are complete, and the third is fully scripted, so I was able to pull inspiration from events that have transpired in the story and some that have yet to transpire. I thought it would be fun to make fake "bumpers" and ad spots for fictional media from the world of the comic. I wanted to capture a sound that was in keeping with the spirit of the comic--loud, kind of insane, and decidedly analog.
Trip Fantastic has taken to Kickstarter to raise funds to print reissues of the first two issue of the comic, both of which have sold out in their first printings. Prizes for donors include mini-comics, t-shirts, art prints, and, starting at $30 and up, the EP.
Should you need further endorsement of Baxter's music, here's a note that MacAruther genius Jonathan Lethem wrote to USF on their record The Spray, which was based on his short story of the same name:
