DZ Deathrays will be performing June 28 at Sunset Tavern.
Party. Thrash. If the Brisbane, Australian band DZ Deathrays had to be summarized into any two words in the English language, other than "leather" and "skull," that would be it. Taking a few minutes from his busy schedule, drummer Simon Ridley briefly delved into the in's and out's of "Teenage Kickstarts" from the band's newest album.
Song: "Teenage Kickstarts"
Release Date: May 8, 2012
When it was written: Shane wrote the main riff when we were touring with this band called Cerebral Ballzy in the UK and then we put it all together when we got back after that tour.
Where it was written: Part on the road, and part in Brisbane.
Favorite line in the song: "Broke my bones in a catastrophe, broke my heart in a heart beat."
If you could go back and change anything, what would it be: it all came together really easily, so I wouldn't change a thing.
Odd fact about song: There are two feedback overdubs on it.
What was your inspiration for writing the song: We wanted a fast punk song to mix up the set and make it more brutal.
When was your favorite time performing it live: Every time.
What is the meaning behind the song: Pretty much it's a song about Mötley Crüe.
