If you, like me, are hitting up Neumos tonight to see The Drums and Craft Spells, make sure you're not late. The show's first opener is Part Time, the breezy synth-pop project of San Francisco's David Speck. Part Time's debut LP What Would You Say? (which, as Stereogum helpfully clarifies, is "most certainly not a DMB reference") was released last year on Mexican Summer; the songs are both gauzy and loaded with sharp pop hooks, sounding something like Fleetwood Mac playing around with a lot of chillwave synthesizers. It makes for a sunny, dreamy romanticism that fits right in with The Drums and Craft Spells' vibes.
Here's the video for Part Time's "I Wanna Take You Out":
You can purchase What Would You Say? on Mexican Summer's website after previewing another great track, "In This Filthy City."
Tonight's show at Neumos starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $13. A lot of dates on this current tour have been selling out, so there's another reason to get there early!
