SW's Best New Band of 2011Beat Connection debuted some long overdue new material this morning via the Fader. "Think/Feel" is the first single from Beat Connection's forthcoming full-length, Palace Garden, due later this summer on Tender Age/Moshi Moshi. It's an incredibly svelte song, shimmering and liquid-smooth as a clean pool of water thanks to the easy-pulsing beat, the belling marimba, and guest vocalist Chelsey Scheffe's serene intonations.
"Think/Feel" is recognizable as a Beat Connection for fans of their Surf Noir EP, but the band's Reed Juenger recently told me that it's the most electronic-sounding song on their new record--mostly due to a recent lineup change. Beat Connection, formerly a duo of Juenger and Jordan Koplowitz, is now a quartet that will focus more heavily on live instrumentation than they have in the past.
The band added drummer Jarred Katz last summer, but now they're also officially welcoming a full-time vocalist and guitarist, who is new but also a familiar face--their good friend and roommate, Tom Eddy, whose voice can be heard "In The Water" and "Silver Screen." Eddy is by leaps and bounds one of the most talented singers in this city. His formal induction (also long overdue) can only mean bigger and better things for the band.
