In this week's Short List I made a subtle jab at The Voice champion Javier Colon and the fact that runner-up Dia Frampton is playing the KeyArena this week while he's at Neumos tonight. (Frampton's first post-Voice record, Red, also outsold Colon's Come Through For You). I think Frampton is supremely talented, creative, and cute, but I'm actually a big fan of Colon as well. He always came off as a sweet guy, and he really did have the best voice on The Voice. His blind audition, seen above, when he sang a stunning version of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time," was one of my favorite moments of the entire season of the show.
And if you were a Voice fan, seeing the show's big winner at a smaller venue will probably be a bigger thrill than being one of thousands seeing Frampton open for Blake Shelton at KeyArena. And Colon's a vet--pre-Voice, he spent two years playing with the Derek Trucks Band--so he knows how to put on a show.
Above is the first single from Come Through For You, "As Long As We Got Love," a family-friendly duet with Natasha Bedingfield.
Javier Colon's playing Neumos tonight, March 7; it's an all-ages show that starts at 7 p.m. with a $25 cover. A bit steeper than most Neumos shows will run you, but come on, the guy's a TV star!
