Local songstress Shannon Stephens will release her third album Pull It Together on Sufjan Stevens' record label Asthmatic Kitty in May, and the first single, "What Love Looks Like," is streaming today on the pop culture blog Popmatters.

Fittingly making its premiere on Valentine's Day, the song is a portrait of modern-day love, set to an upbeat and melodious tune. Much like all the songs on this album, "What Love Looks Like" allow Stephens to share her opinions as a lover, an artist, a mother, and a citizen of the world, balancing cynicism, optimism, and ear-catching vocals along the way.
Stephens plays Friday, February 24th with guitarist Jeff Fielder and Julian Martlew at Empty Sea Studios in Phinney Ridge. All-ages. $8 adv/ $12 at door. Tickets here.
