Reverb Questionnaire is a list of (mostly) static questions we pose to folks outside the music industry. The questions are all answered via email. Previous participants include Michael Chabon, Michele Norris, and Janeane Garofolo.
You've seen Craig Robinson in The Office, Knocked Up, Zack & Miri Make a Porno, and Hot Tub Time Machine, just to name a few of his myriad appearances on the big and small screen. Before he brings his stand-up routine and band, the Nasty Delicous, to the Neptune on January 12, Robinson took a few minutes to answer the questions in our Reverb Questionnaire.
Here's what he told us about Nirvana, dancing with Prince, and Susan Sarandon:
What music have you been listening to today? Did you like it?
I am currently in Rio de Janeiro and I have been listening to a tune called "Funk", and it is awesome. They play it here for like an hour while other songs play over it. I love it.
What's your preferred method for listening to music (iPod, car, home stereo, etc.)?
I love my iPod Nano, or whatever it's called. It's the itty bitty one that fits in a watch.
When was the last time you heard "Stairway to Heaven"? Did you turn it off?
Ummmmm.....like 3 weeks ago at, no that was "Dream On." I last heard "Stairway to Heaven" at a bar in Hollywood like a year ago and it was on the radio so I couldn't turn it off. I left.
Do you play an instrument?
I play the piano. And I play it well
Do you still listen to anything you were listening to in high school? If so, what?
I still listen to a lot f music I listened to in high school including Prince ("Do Me Baby"), DeBarge ("In A Special Way"), and Justin Bieber ("Baby").
What was the first band/artist you saw in concert? Would you see them again?
First band I saw was the Jackson 5. And hell yes I would see them again except for...never mind.
What was the last band/artist you saw in concert? Worth your time?
Last band I saw was my band, the Nasty Delicious, and it was so worth my time I became a groupie!!! Then things got awkward and I went back to bandleader.
When you sing karaoke, what's your go-to number?
My karaoke go-to number, Saturday at midnight, crowd is hot, and drunk, and hungry..."Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. Fuhgettaboutit!!!!
How do you feel about ABBA?
I've got two words for ABBA..."Dancing Queen." I really like that song.
What is the last song you want to hear before you die?
Last song before I die..."Windmills of Your Mind" by Michel LeGrand. Now every time I hear it I'm probably going to look around nervously.
Please share a favorite musical moment/story from your past.
I went to see Prince 5 times at the Forum in Los Angeles. On the last show I attended one of his singers, Shelby, pulled me up on stage (there were probably 40 other people as well) and I danced onstage with her and Susan Sarandon and Prince's dancers who are known as the Twins. Because they are twins. And I have video to prove it!!
Last Question: If you had a hot tub time machine, when, where, and who would you go back to, and how do you envision the situation unfolding?
If I had a hot tub time machine, I would go to the Neptune in Seattle, Jan 12, 2012 and rock the balls off the joint.
