The amount of quality local rap music that has surfaced this week is pretty amazing. Mostly singles and teasers, but brilliant flashes nonetheless, and if these releases are a sign of things to come, then the Reverb Board Of Blaps And Raps would like to clearly voice its approval.

Here we go:

Avatar Young Blaze, "Streetz Tonight" (produced by AraabMuzik)

Local fire breather Avatar Young Blaze has teamed up again with talented Providence, Rhode Island MPC-god AraabMusik (whom he penned "Zone Out" with back in 2009 for his mixtape From Russia With Love) for new offering "Streetz Tonight". AM's dance beat here slows down to accommodate Av's syllable-dragging verses, then quickens to get your blood pumping on the dance floor. The fast/slow, upbeat/sinister contrast is one that works extremely well for Young Blaze, and this time his verses go between introspective and untrusting love ode: this might be Av at his most personal, but he's still a bad mo'fucka. He's to the point in his career where he can be self-referential and his listeners can follow along (he even drops a line about his Young Jeezy show, which shows you how recent this song is), and at last count, there are are plenty following along.

DJ Semaj, "Painting Jimmy" Teaser

Tacoma's DJ Semaj is a venerable, sample-favoring beatmaker who has solid product like the Some Kind Of Wonderful freEP in his resume. This offering is just a teaser for his upcoming album Painting Jimmy (which is set to come out on the fourteenth of this month), and the video's plot is all over the place, but who knows, things might come together when the album drops, and the audio samplings are legit.

Slow Dance, "Fever Sleep"

If you've seen these dudes live before, you'd know they have two sides to their operation: head-banging party rap; and freaked out space sludge. "Fever Sleep" is some spaced out world view stuff, and breaks away from their previous fade-in disco-beat formula tracks like "Melter" and "Vampin'". The track is really fucking good, as are the hallucinatory visuals. Slow Dance's album release party is Friday, November 25th at Nectar. The RBOBAP officially can't wait for this one.
