Shabazz Palaces + SBTRKT = An Unlikely Collaboration for Seattle's Most Hermetic Hip-Hop Act

I've been wondering for a while now when we'd hear Shabazz Palaces on another artist's track or (still waiting) another artist remixing Shabazz Palaces. Ishmael Butler and company have crafted a carefully hermetic sonic and aesthetic world for Shabazz, and when they have welcomed collaborators, it's been those whom they could easily absorb as extended family, as with recent partners THEESatisfaction. (One hoped that Butler's family ties to cousin Gonjasufi might open some Shabazz tracks up to remixes by folks from Flying Lotus' camp.) So it's interesting to hear Shabazz hop on lately hyped Toronto artist SBTRKT's "Wildfire," a Little Dragon-featuring slice of clarion dubstep wobble, via a remix by prolific hip-hop producer Drumma Boy.

For one thing, it means our man of Shabazz is following in R&Bmo goon Drake's footsteps; for another, it's just weird to hear the Palaceer over such a clean, shiny beat as opposed to his typically heady sampladelic murk. I guess they share a penchant for post-tribal masks?
