In this week's Short List, Mike Seely marvels at the number of powerhouse female musicians who are hitting Seattle this upcoming week: the Go-Go's at Woodland Park Zoo and Sade at KeyArena on Sunday, Adele at the Paramount tomorrow night. Cross Loretta Lynn off that list, though--the country icon, who was scheduled to appear at Snoqualmie Casino's Mountain View Plaza this Sunday evening, has cancelled a portion of her current tour. Says a statement on Lynn's website:
Though she recently returned to the concert stage with a performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Loretta Lynn has now been forced to cancel tour dates through the September 3rd. . . The iconic entertainer will undergo knee reconstruction surgery and her physician has ordered her to allow time for a full recovery. "I'm sad to have to cancel any shows for my fans, but they tell me I've just got to stay off this knee for a while," Lynn says.
Lynn is rescheduling some of the cancelled dates, but not the Seattle one--Snoqualmie Casino's website states: "We will not be rescheduling since our Outdoor Concert Series will be over."
Sorry, Loretta fans! In the meantime, Third Man Records--who recently rereleased Lynn's 2004 Grammy-winning Van Lear Rose on 12-inch vinyl--announced the Blue Rose Beauty Pageant, in which fans can post pictures of themselves on Third Man's Facebook page wearing their favorite fancy blue dresses (in the style of Lynn on the cover of Van Lear Rose). The three photos with the most "Likes" will win a limited-edition Blue Rose Loretta Lynn Van Lear Rose LP. The deadline's August 15, so get pretty!
