Today Reverb Recommends Checking Out One of Two Extra Life Shows in Town This Weekend

Extra Life is the current recording project of the Brooklyn vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Charlie Looker (Zs, Dirty Projectors). The band's music is wildly experimental and complex, taking cues from classical and medieval music; since 2007, they've released two full-lengths and a series of EPs, the latest being the fervent and uncharacteristically pop-minded Ripped Heart EP, which Looker released in April on his own Last Things Records. Here's the EP's "Elegy (Cartoon Piano)":

Extra Life is currently on tour with Sam Mickens, which many fans are very excited about. (One frustrated fan has posted on Extra Life's Facebook page, "as if this fucking Extra Life / Sam Mickens (The Dead Science) / Parenthetical Girls tour is not fucking coming to the U fucking K. Fuck this, I'm fucking killing myself.") Fortunately for us, they're playing not one but two shows in Seattle this weekend. Tonight, there's an all-ages show at Cairo with U. And tomorrow night, Extra Life and Mickens will play a 21+ show at the Highline with their friends Parenthetical Girls.

Check one, or both, out.
