Jay-Z & Kanye West Officially Come Together as "The Throne," Announce Tacoma Concert"/>

The rock and folk genres have long been fertile ground for the formation of supergroups, from Them Crooked Vultures and The Dead Weather to Monsters of Folk and the Traveling Wilburys. Slaughterhouse is a notable, recently formed rap supergroup, but there are few other examples. How can a group of two be considered a supergroup, you ask? When the two parties involved are gargantuan, genre-defining entities like Jay-Z and Kanye West. All they really had to do was settle on an equally lavish name: The Throne.
Sure, they've worked together on tracks before, but the press release tells us that this full-length (which was recorded in London, Bath, Abu Dhabi, Sydney, Paris, and New York, and features production from The RZA and the Neptunes among others) "has already been heralded as a 'masterpiece' by those who have heard it," so we've got our expectations set to "high" for this one.
Released last week, the lead single, "Otis" was OK, but as we mentioned then, the result may be less than the sum of its parts. The album should be good, though--the two are too talented to put out anything subpar, and you'd be just plain silly to miss the two onstage together.
The album drops August 8 on Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam Recordings through iTunes, and their big-time tour swings through the Tacoma Dome October 13, tickets also available on the 8th.
