Tim Harrington of dance-punk pranksters Les Savy Fav and Damian Abraham of post-hardcore howlers Fucked Up are two of the most sweaty, bearish bruisers going in rock music, and since both excellent bands are playing the Capitol Hill Block Party this weekend, we thought we'd do a scientific side-by-side comparison. Let's have a nice, clean fight, fellas.

Abraham: Has been known to hurl himself into a mosh pit with impressive force, get sweaty and naked.

Concept Albums

Les Savy Fav: Inches, a nine-year project in which the band released a series of 7" singles whose covers combined to form the album art of the compilation itself, which was released at the end of the project, collecting the A- and B-sides of the singles. Includes several of the band's best tracks, as well as live versions, rough demos, and a "dramatic reading" inspired by the song "Reformat."

Fucked Up: David Comes to Life, a blistering, relentless 78-minute punk-rock epic about love, loss, leftist politics, and small-town life and death, told obliquely but energetically and occasionally punctured by structuralist play.

Advantage: Tie

TV Appearances

Harrington: A Pitchfork TV show appropriately entitled Beardo, in which Harrington and indie-music celebrity friends joke about indie-music celebrity and other matters.

Abraham: Has been a guest on the Fox News late-night "comedy" program Red Eye; currently hosts The Wedge on Canadian MTV MuchMusic.

Advantage: Tie

Extra-Curricular Activities

Harrington: Designs textiles with his wife.

Abraham: Sues tobacco companies for fun.

Advantage: Tie

Family life

Harrington: Married (children unknown).

Abraham: Married with child.

Advantage: Abraham

Gay?

Harrington: Not gay.

Abraham: Not gay.

Lil B: Gay (Happy).

Advantage: Lil B.

Bear Bona-Fides

Harrington: Always getting his head stuck in honey pots.

Abraham: Shits in the woods.

Advantage: Tie

As you can see, the two bands are pretty evenly matched. Best to just see them both--and hope they turn up at Diesel afterward.
