In terms of musical programming, Seattle's Pride Week usually caters to the boys, with electro-beats and divas far outstripping the folkier sounds typically favored by females. But that's OK, because area lesbians basically have their own summer-long festival: Zoo Tunes, which kicks off Wednesday (just in time for Pride!) at the Woodland Park Zoo with a Taj Mahal/Joan Osborne pairing.
The Zoo's lineup is simply chockablock with superstar artists who are either lesbians or have gigantic lesbian followings, among them: Osborne, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Lucinda Williams, the Indigo Girls, Brandi Carlile, k.d. lang, the Go-Go's, and Aimee Mann. Williams, Carlile, the Go-Go's, & lang have all sold out; amazingly, the Indigo Girls, whose tickets are typically the first to go, haven't.
To punctuate the girl-on-girliciousness of it all, Zoo Tunes is sponsored by Carter Subaru and the Go-Go's tour is called "Ladies Gone Wild." I mean, who needs a measly week when you've got two square months of wall-to-wall carpet instead?
