What's the Indie Song of Summer 2011?

Summer-Jam.jpg
Our friends over at Stereogum have compiled what they believe to have been the top indie jams of the summer since 2001:

2001: The Strokes - "Last Nite"

2002: The White Stripes - "Fell In Love With A Girl"

2003: Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Date With The Night"

2004: The Killers - "Somebody Told Me"

2005: LCD Soundsystem - "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House"

2006: Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy"

2007: Justice - "D.A.N.C.E."

2008: MGMT - "Electric Feel"

2009: Phoenix - "Lisztomania"

2010: LCD Soundsystem - "Drunk Girls"

Pretty appropriate picks, with the exception of 2004--isn't it a big stretch to call the Killers "indie," especially since that record was released on Island? Anyway, now Stereogum readers have nominated their top five picks for 2011's official song of the summer. You can vote until June 29, and the winner will be revealed on the Fourth of July. And the nominees are . . .

  • Battles, "Ice Cream"
  • Cults, "Go Outside"
  • Foster the People, "Pumped Up Kicks"
  • Givers, "Up Up Up"
  • Washed Out, "Eyes Be Closed"

Of these five, I'd go with Cults' "Go Outside"--it's so seasonally appropriate. Although I do also dig "Pumped Up Kicks" in a pretty major way.

Outside the list and locally, though, this one's my pick:
