Listen to Gold Leaves, the New Project from Arthur and Yu's Grant Olsen

Kyle Johnson
A few months ago I wondered what had become of charming girl/guy folk act Arthur and Yu, who disappeared after releasing only one stellar record, 2007's In Camera. Well, last week I got word via our friends at Sound on the Sound that Grant Olsen, half of the duo, was releasing songs under the name Gold Leaves, and had signed with Hardly Art, the same label which released In Camera. I haven't been able to stop listening to "The Ornament" ever since. It's a slow burner of a song which merges Fleet Foxes toms with My Morning Jacket backbone. The Moondoggies contributed backing vocals, and the forthcoming album (also called The Ornament) features performances by Thao Nguyen and Amy Blaschke.

Give it a listen over at the Hardly Art site, and if you like what you hear, you can see Gold Leaves tomorrow, June 10, at Neumos with Campfire OK and Grand Hallway.
