If "Bruce Springsteen Goes to the Euro-Trash Discotheque" Sounds Good to You, Get Stoked for the New Handsome Furs Record

Sub Pop just killing it right now: Shabazz Palaces (ahem), Washed Out, and now the next one from Wolf Parade spin-off Handsome Furs, the hot/cold husband/wife duo of Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry. Handsome Furs debuted with the spare, haunted Plague Park, but since 2009's excellent Face Control, the band has been mining an unexpectedly rich sound equally informed by Springsteenian Americana and dystopian post-Soviet discotheques ("face control" is when Russian bouncers won't let you into the hyper-capitalist nightclub because you're not hot enough).

Their new album, Sound Kapital, is out tomorrow, and it continues both the duo's fascination with post-Cold War themes and their icy yet pulsing electro-rock sound. On first listen, I kind of fall off around mid-album ballad "Serve the People," but you can't fuck with the first half of the record, especially album opener "When I Get Back."
