Hobosexual Widens Its Lead in the Race for Cleverest Marketing Campaign of 2011

Hobosexual drummer Jeff Silva, aka "Portuguese Bonham," gets some action.
First came one of the funniest local music videos to be released in a long, long time, followed by a pair of even funnier action figures. Then yesterday, a mysterious package arrived at 1008 Western. In it was a press release and a cassette recording of Hobosexual's new live album: Hobosexual: Live From the CCT. (CCT being the Columbia City Theater; the recording captures the band's January 15 performance there.)

There was also a download card for the album, but never mind that; just how would the average music scribe make use of a cassette recording in an office not containing a cassette player? The mystery package contained a very large solution.

Shrouded in old newspapers was a vintage Gold Star cassette player (complete with AM/FM radio!) on which to play the cassette, which sounds like a less-annoying version of vintage Soundgarden. Hobosexual manager Amelia Gyde reports that she and drummer Jeff Silva procured the silver and black beauty at a thrift store just prior to delivery.

So if anyone's looking for the perfect antidote to a local scene dominated by straight-faced melodic folk, Hobosexual returns to the CCT on June 25, with Whalebones and This Bitch Don't Fall Off.

Here's Hobosexual's video for "Monolith," the heavy-ass "bonus track" on Live From the CCT:
