Tonight at Vera: A Battle of the Bands That Isn't Sound Off

Even though Sound Off, which always showcases some of Seattle's best young talent, took place in February, fans of battles of the bands have another option to get their underage-music fix tonight at the Vera Project.

The Seattle final of the College Battle of the Bands, a national competition whose alumni include Local Natives, will feature four local acts, all of whom--per the contest's rules--have at least one member enrolled in college. This year's contestants are Sound Off participants Land of Pines and Fit for Hounds, which both feature members from UW, as well as fellow Huskies The Violins and the appropriately named Seattle University hip-hop group The U Crew.

The winner moves on to the regional round, with the possibility of advancing to the national final and, according to the competition's press release, being "showered with music gear and prizes from contest sponsors, in addition to securing an opening spot on Live Nation's upcoming Textbooks & Tickets Tour."

As for a prediction? I'd put my money on Land of Pines to avenge their performance at Sound Off, where they didn't make the finals despite being voted the audience favorite the night they played. And if the vaguely sports-related terminology I use here sounds strange in relation to indie rock, it's reinforced by this slightly ridiculous bracket of bands from the competition's website:
