Wolf Parade may have kind of, sort of dispersed for the time being (but don't forget you'll still see them together at Sasquatch! this year), but Dan Boeckner is keeping occupied with his side project, Handsome Furs (Boeckner plus wife Alexei Perry). Today Sub Pop announced that they will release Handsome Furs' third full-length, Sound Kapital, on June 28.
They're trying something new, too: Sound Kapital was influenced by Eastern European electronic music and completely ditches the strings; it was entirely written and recorded with keyboards and drum machines. Sub Pop says the album is an attempt to change the public perception of electronic music as "cold, alien, or unfeeling, somehow detached from the human experience."
Listening to "What About Us", the album's first single, it appears that the duo has succeeded--there's nothing cold about this track; it's all flash, bang, and fire. We say this is a smart and totally exciting move for Handsome Furs, and can't wait to hear from the record.
