That's Whats Up! Shabazz Palaces Announces Black Up Album Details, and Drops the Spaced-Out Single "An Echo From the Hosts That Profess Infinitum"

Shabazz Palaces' much- anticipated Sub Pop debut, following 2009's outstanding pair of EPs, will be titled, with their usual Afro-centric flair, Black Up, and will be released May 31. You can download a track from the album, "An Echo From the Hosts that Profess Infinitum," today via Sub Pop (also embedded below). It's a woozy, spaced-out song, with Ishmael Butler's echoing vocals riding a digitally eroded vocal loop and a deep bass beat, resolving in a know-thyself mantra typical of Shabazz's introspective raps: "Who do you think you are?" It's a burner (and, it should go without saying, a very good look for Seattle and Sub Pop).
