SXSW to Get Flotarded as Shoreline's Rock & Roll Circus Heads to Austin's Annual "Spring Break Bacchanal""/>
Stag's Rock & Roll Circus debuted last year at the humblest of venues: Darrell's Tavern in Shoreline, which, before Dan Dyckman took it over, was best known as a blue-collar uber-dive with a cavalcade of vintage Lincolns marooned out front. On March 18, however, the Circus will come to another town, Austin (Tex.), as an unofficial South by Southwest entry, with a whopper of a local lineup that'll blow the boards off the stage at Zax Restaurant (312 Barton Springs Rd.) beginning at noon and continuing right up 'til suppertime. Best of all, it'll be free.
Visqueen's Queen, looking hella Flotarded.
The lineup is as follows:
12-12:30: The Young Evils
12:45-1:15: Kasey Anderson & the Honkies
1:30-2: Shelby Earl
2:15-2:45: New Roman Times
3-3:30: Brite Futures (nee Natalie Portman's Shaved Head)
4:30-5: Cobirds Unite (with Maggie Bjorklund)
5:15-5:45: James Apollo
Those who can't afford the trek to the annul "spring break bacchanal," as described by Circus founder and former Alcohol Funnycar and Sanford Arms frontman Ben London (who adds that "as far as SXSW goes, daytime is the new nighttime") can catch Cobirds Unite, featuring Rusty Willoughby and Visqueen's Rachel Flotard, at the Tractor this Friday. There, they'll be joined by Earl, the Maldives' Jason Dodson, and the Neko-y Bjorklund, whose fantastic new album, Coming Home (Bloodshot), drops March 22.
