Sub Pop already made available for free download the title-track from the Dum Dum Girls' upcoming four-track EP He Gets Me High, and like their debut album I Will Be, it's received a nice reception. Now you can stream another song off the rockers' forthcoming EP--the band's cover of The Smiths' 1986 classic "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out."
Cover songs are obviously a tough business, but the Dum Dum Girls smartly stay faithful to the original (full disclosure: one of this writer's favorite songs ever recorded), while easily mixing in their addictive hard-edged rock sound. The vocals of frontwoman Kristin Gundred, aka Dee-Dee, are simple and to-the-point. But that's probably the best way to go since trying to match Morrissey's legendary self-loathing act is something many have tried and failed at.
Stream the song below thanks to Consequence of Sound, and keep in mind that the new EP is out March 12.
