Kanye West in Uncredited Sampling Shocker! Also: Dumb Eyes' New Video for Beat Connection's "Silver Screen"

Kanye West premiered the video for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy's epic linchpin "All of the Lights" on Saturday, but because I was in Portland all weekend having birds put on me, I didn't get around to seeing it until last night--and then largely because of some protest on Facebook from local design collective Dumb Eyes' "PPenetration NNoww" profile to the effect that West was practicing "dirty thievery" and ripping off Gaspar Noe. It's true, West's Hype Williams-directed video totally bites (and sadly de-fangs) the screaming, seizure-inducing title credits of Noe's Enter the Void* (I like to think I would have noticed this myself, having just seen the film last week), but since when has Kanye West not made his living off blatantly sampling the French? (I think their word for it is hommage?)

On a more positive note, Dumb Eyes have lately been in the music-video game themselves, most recently directing a trippy, prismatic clip for chill young local duo Beat Connection's "Silver Screen," a catchy tune with almost Vampy Weeks pop vocals emerging out of its '80s synth haze:

*A clip of Noe's title credits is after the jump for your comparison:
