Today Reverb Recommends Catching the Rendezvous' Tribute to Sonic Youth

Last year on Record Store Day, Beck released his cover of Sonic Youth's "Green Light." In 2006, The Go! Team released a scratchy, banging cover of SY's "Bull in the Heather." That same year, Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs recorded a lovely acoustic version of "Diamond Sea." Am I missing any other great SY covers?

Tonight at the Rendezvous, local bands will pay homage to the gigantically influential Sonic Youth with a tribute night that starts at 10 p.m. Can't think of many bands that deserve their own tribute night more than Sonic Youth--and the best part of tonight's show? It's free.

Performing will be Kinski, Moronic Yoof (which contains members of Unnatural Helpers, Thee Sgt. Major, and the defunct Dutchess & the Duke), the Skip Tracers, Rain Kings, and the Sky Blue Ninjas (which contains members of Kinski and the Spoils.)

Hope someone does a monster cover of "Dirty Boots"!

(In "real" Sonic Youth news, Thurston Moore's got a new solo album in the works; it's called Benediction and is being produced by Beck).
