Is Justin Bieber Going to Win an Academy Award? (Please, God, Yes)

Justin-Bieber.jpg
The Academy appears to have Bieber Fever. This morning the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced their short list of 41 songs in the running for the the Best Original Song award at the 83rd Academy Awards. Among the notables include Christina Aguilera's "Bound to You" from Burlesque, the Chris Martin-penned "Me and Tennessee" performed by Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw for Country Strong, Eddie Vedder's "Better Days" from Eat Pray Love, Metric's "Eclipse (All Yours)" from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, John Legend's "Shine" from Waiting For Superman, and yes, Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never," his duet with Jaden Smith (no, not that Smith kid. The other one) from this year's Karate Kid remake.

This is, of course, a shortlist, and only five of the songs will actually be nominated, and winning the thing is another matter completely. But Bieber doesn't have a bad chance. He's got youth and fame on his side, and while The Karate Kid doesn't necessarily scream Oscar, it's also not Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. Plus there is always the chance that Academy members' daughters will throw outrageous fits if their daddies don't vote for Justin. We say, give him the Oscar! Look at him! He has everything else in the world! Why shouldn't Justin Bieber have an Oscar? Who are you to say Justin Bieber shouldn't have an Oscar?
