It's been more than five years since Chris Leavy and his crew of referees arguably stole Super Bowl XL from our Seahawks and handed it to the Steelers, but for many fans the wound is still plenty fresh and Pittsburgh is still a forbidden city. So when Wiz Khalifa's recent radio hit "Black & Yellow" started getting airplay, some Seattleites were expectedly rubbed the wrong way, and when the rapper came to town last month the afterparty was shadowed by a scuffle. It was only a matter of time until the song got a local twist.
Cue Havi Blaze, a Tacoma native and 2010 UW graduate. His latest, "Purple & Gold (UW Anthem)," does exactly that--shouting to the Ave, the HUB, and staying "studying' for class, steady in some ass, maybe hit the Ave, hopefully I pass." He even takes a shot at KUBE for playing the track, and while Blaze (and every other Seahawks fan in town) has to know the station couldn't afford not to spin it--shots fired? Sort of:
Forget the black and yellow, I like the green and blues / 'Cuz reppin' Pittsburgh in this city is against the rules / Then I heard it on the radio, switchin' tunes / Are these fools a bunch of squares? Or is this KUBE?You can download the remix for free on Blaze's website The Realest. And this is just the first one I've heard--are there more? Either way, I don't know if any remix can take the place of the '06 football squad's Husky Nation album.
