Rolling Stone has a photo slideshow up right now of some of the Nirvana memorabilia coming to EMP in April 2011 for "the world's most extensive Nirvana exhibit." The preview includes photos of:

  • The Stratocaster that Kurt Cobain playing at the 1992 Reading Festival
  • The band's first demo recording from 1988 on cassette tape and lettered by Jack Endino
  • Cobain's handwritten lyrics for "Floyd the Barber" and "Paper Cuts"
  • The T-shirt that Cobain wore on the cover of SPIN magazine in 1992
  • And probably what I, as a Tacoman, think is the coolest, the above Cobain-designed show poster for the band's first show billed as Nirvana in 1988 at Tacoma's Community World Theater

Where's all this stuff coming from, you ask? A very familiar face around Reverb... EMP curator Jacob McMurray tells Rolling Stone -- "What was really great, and changed the scope of the exhibition dramatically for me, was being able to work with Krist Novoselic. We went down to his place and pulled out twenty bins of material he had collected, and clearly hadn't looked at in a decade or more. I kept asking him, 'Is it alright if I use this for the exhibit?' and he kept saying, 'Yeah, get it out of here, take it!'"
