Laurie Kilmartin is performing at the Comedy Underground through Saturday. Shows are at 10 p.m.
Laurie Kilmartin used to be a jock, swimming for the University of California, Los Angeles. Now she's a class clown as a professional comic, though she didn't drop swimming entirely--she used to post a series of witty reviews on lap pools around the country as she'd tour. Kilmartin has been seen on Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central, Jimmy Kimmel Live and was a staff writer for the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Before her shows at the Comedy Underground (through Saturday), she wrote to us on her love of ABBA, her hate of Led Zeppelin, and her early attempts at the flute.

Reverb Questionnaire is a list of (mostly) static questions we pose to folks outside the music industry. The questions are all answered via e-mail.

What music have you been listening to today? Did you like it?

I've just become a podcast addict--no music lately. I love and recommend these podcasts: Marc Maron, Grammar Girl, Fresh Air, Rachel Maddow, Jimmy Dore, Freakonomics, Jimmy Pardo, Greg Fitzsimmons.

What's your preferred method for listening to music (iPod, car, home stereo, etc.)?

I use an iPod, in the car or just walking around. I keep it nestled in my cleavage, all day long.

When was the last time you heard "Stairway to Heaven?" Did you turn it off?

I think I heard a neighbor singing it. I closed the window.

Do you play an instrument?

I played the flute in fourth grade. Nobody suggested I keep at it.

Do you still listen to anything you were listening to in high school?

Yup. U2, The Pretenders and Springsteen, the Clash. Elvis Costello.

What was the first band/artist you saw in concert? Would you see them again?

Bow Wow Wow. Anabella was great, I would pay a thousand dollars to see her sing now.

What was the last band/artist you saw in concert? Worth your time?

Can't remember. When I have a night off of comedy, I stay away from crowds.

When you sing karaoke, what's your go-to number?

"Picture," by Sheryl Crow.

How do you feel about ABBA?

I loved them earnestly when I was a kid, and I love them ironically now.

What is the last song you want to hear before you die?

"Jungleland."

Please share a favorite musical moment/story from your past.

My mom wouldn't let me swear, but the first Pretenders album had a song called "Precious," and in it, Chrissie Hynde sings "Not me baby, I'm too precious, fuck off."

I convinced my mom that the swearing on that song didn't count because it was on a record album and a record company wouldn't let someone say the f-word on a record unless it was really important. Because she respects authority, that sounded right to her, and I got to sing "Fuck Off" at the top of my lungs.
