In hip-hop, the co-sign is wildly powerful--and when just about every major player in town is willing to jump on a video to back your forthcoming mixtape, there's a strong indication you've done something right. Enter Lace Cadence: his Launchpad mixtape, hosted by KUBE's Sunday Night Sound Session DJs J. Moore and Hyphen and mixed by KUBE's DJ B-Mello, is a dusky, crooning work of female-focused silkiness. Backed with hip-hop instrumentals from Blast Off Productions, the Clockwork member transforms Seattle into a lush tropical soundscape, seamlessly alternating between moonlit nights and sunny beach days. His smoky vocals are reminiscent of the Trey Songz and Drake "I Invented Sex"-type collaborations, and somehow his rapped flows sound just as suave as his sung ones. Cadence has a lot of support behind this tape, and it's certainly well deserved.
