It's streaming on their website right now, and it sounds damn good. Recorded by Chris Common and Justin Wilmore, the CryBaby Compilation is a collection of new tracks by different local artists that practice and record in the subterranean Capitol Hill rehearsal and studio space, including See Me River, My Goodness and the Knast.
The open cut by the Absolute Monarchs is pretty stunning (guitarist Shawn Kock wrings some of the most delicious guitar tones in this city from his instrument), as is the PJ Harvey-ish number that follows by newcomers LOVESICK. Between the quality of the mix and caliber of the artists included, it's probably the best local comp I've come across since the days of Up! Records' uniformly delightful collections.
Crybaby owner Leigh Stone has a record release party booked at Neumos this Friday, July 16, when Stone's own band Panty Christ will play. Admission is a mere $5 and includes a copy of the comp.
