Free MP3: The Black Angels' New One, "Telephone," Is a Jangly '60s Pop Reference

Austin psych-rockers The Black Angels have released a brand new song from their upcoming third LP, Phosphone Dream, the follow-up to 2006's Passover and 2008's Directions to See a Ghost (both from Light in the Attic). The Angels' trademark sound is huge, stormy and ominous, but "Telephone" is none of those -- it's a quick and jangly garage rock tune that should instantly recall the great '60s and '70s era pop of bands like the Zombies. The Angels' wild epics were what made me fall in love with them, but this song is pretty irresistible, and I think this might be a sweet new direction for the band.

Phosphone Dream will be released on September 14. Click here to head over to SPIN, where you can download "Telephone" for free.
