The Shins' First New Song in Two Years: A Cover of Squeeze's "Goodbye Girl" with a Seattle Shoutout

Levi's (as in the pants) has been getting artists to record cover songs as part of their Pioneer Sessions - Dirty Projectors covering Bob Dylan, She & Him covering Rick Nelson. Now they've gotten the Shins to record their first new material in two years - a cover of the 70s British New Wave outfit Squeeze's "Goodbye Girl." I'm really pleased to say the song sounds great - breezy and bouncy, like the best pop gems on Chutes Too Narrow. Also:

1. Does this mean Broken Bells is done for now? (please?)

2. James Mercer changed the song's original lyrics to include a shoutout to our humble city - the Squeeze version goes, "My wife has moved to Boston/ So luck is not the word." The Shins version now goes, "My wife moved up to Seattle/ So home is not the word." Thanks James!
